Monticelli D'Ongina
The Monticelli d'Ongina Agrivoltaic Farm is a unique agricultural site located near the town of Piacenza in northern Italy. It is a large-scale farm that combines traditional agriculture with solar energy production. The farm covers an area of 10 hectares (25 acres) and consists of more than 7,000 solar panels that are mounted on specially designed support structures that elevate them above the crops.
The solar panels are installed in a way that allows them to provide shade to the crops below, helping to regulate temperature and reduce water usage. This approach, known as "agrivoltaics," is a sustainable way to generate renewable energy while maximizing land use efficiency and productivity.
The crops grown at the Monticelli d'Ongina Agrivoltaic Farm include wheat, soybeans, and corn, among others. The farm uses precision agriculture techniques, such as GPS-guided machinery and soil sensors, to optimize crop yields and minimize environmental impact. The farm also incorporates other sustainable practices, such as rainwater harvesting and the use of natural pest control methods.
The Monticelli d'Ongina Agrivoltaic Farm is a prime example of how sustainable agriculture and renewable energy production can be combined to create innovative and environmentally friendly solutions for our future.
